The American Band Journal has been published since 1948. The initial subtitle proclaimed the emphasis and focus of most of the music published: Band Music for Evangelism.

The series can be played with just nine players, but sounds equally well for both small-scale ensemble and full-sized group.

The ABJ is published twice a year. The Spring issue includes a variety of compositions while the Winter issue focuses solely on new Christmas repertoire.
