The Salvation Army Tune Book contents itself with stating that Adeste Fideles (O Come, All Ye Faithful) is an 18th century melody; other authorities attribute the melody as “Possibly by” John F. Wade (1711-1786). The carol is deservedly popular and stimulating to sing, especially in a group. While the present arrangement is intended to maintain its carol links, only the music to the last part has been chosen for treatment. These words, “O come let us adore him, Christ the Lord,” are sometimes used as a prayer chorus.
