Two upbeat, popular carols are featured in this arrangement: “Deck the Halls” is a Welsh melody from the 17th century married to a Scottish text from the 19th century.
“Ding Dong Merrily on High” was published by English lyricist George Ratcliffe Woodward in the early 20th century, put to a French dance tune written in the 16th Century. Both carols are perennial favorites of Salvation Army bands playing on the street corner, and indeed, for carol singers the world over.
