Year: 1996
Type: Hymn/Song Arrangement
Composer: Robert Redhead
Program Notes:
As Christians, each new day requires a fresh renewal of our dedication to the Lord. Kenneth Osbeck writes that “I am Thine, O Lord” was written by Fanny Crosby in 1875 during a visit to the home of the composer William H. Doane. The family’s conversation that night centered around the blessedness of enjoying the nearness of God. Suddenly, in a moment of inspiration, Fanny started giving the words fo the hymn, line by line, verse by verse, and soon afterwards William Doane supplied the music.
I am Thine, O Lord; I have heard thy voice.
And it told thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to thee.
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord
To the cross where thou hast died
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord
To thy precious bleeding side.
