Program Notes:

This fanfare prelude features the hymn tune “Bullinger” composed by Ethelbert W. Bullinger (1837-1913), most often associated with Frances Ridley Havergal’s (1836-1879) text, “I am trusting thee, Lord Jesus.”  The fanfare is based on fragments of the melody structured over a continuous ostinato bass line.  The words of the verse are the basis of the final setting.

I am trusting Thee, Lord Jesus,

Trusting only Thee;

Trusting Thee for full salvation,

Great and free.
