Program Notes:

Jesus Christ instructs us in Matthew 16:24 that “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me”.  The hymn “Follow On” was written by William O. Cushing in 1878 at a crossroad in his life.  After a great struggle he penned the words to this great hymn wanting “to give up all for Christ who had given His life for me.”  This meditation for soloist and band was written to portray this truth and to proclaim with Hosea “Oh that we might know the Lord!  Let us press on to know him. He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of the rains in early morning.” (Hosea 6:3)
