Gracious Redeemer
Grade Level 3
Year: 2012
Type: Bb/C Solo
Composer: James Curnow
Program Notes:
Two completely opposite styles of music are presented in this energetic and joyful solo. The first scintillating and challenging section captures the joy of the Christian life, while the second and more introspective presentation of the original hymn (Text: William R. Featherstone, Music: Gordon), “My Jesus I love Thee,” creates a mood of devotion. It is believed that the inspiration for this lovely text comes from I John 4:19: We love because He first loved us.
My Jesus, I love Thee; I know Thou art mine.
For Thee all follies of sin I resign.
My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou:
If ever I loved Thee, My Jesus, ‘tis now.
