This music was taken from Franz Schubert’s Deuche Messe (German Mass), written in 1826. Schubert certainly had the understanding of the congregation in mind when he used German words rather than the official Latin text of a mass at that time. This simple melody has since been used in churches throughout the world as a congregational song in various arrangements, but all contain the timeless message that God is holy.
