The music of this devotional piece is originally cast in the form of a three-voice canon. The first eight bars are given out by the first voice and repeated successively by two further voices. As each voice ends its first phrase, it moves on to the next. The band arrangement (in a four-part format) initially offers the canon and then discusses the musical ideas with emphasis on the first melodic phrase.
The Latin text is Dona nobis pacem (Grant us peace). A text by Gerald S. Henderson, based on Isaiah 6, reads Holy, holy, Lord God almighty; Your glory fills the earth, Lord God of hosts.
