Albert E. Brumley, called “the greatest white gospel writer before World War II” by Smithsonian researchers, wrote “I’ll Fly Away” in 1929. The inspiration came to him while he was picking cotton and dreaming of flying away, and it quickly became his most popular song.
James Cheyne has taken this popular tune and arranged it in a fun piece with several other gospel songs, including “When We All Get to Heaven,” “In the Sweet By-and-By,” and “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.”
