Program Notes:

“I Shall Not Be Moved” likely began as a spiritual, sung to help encourage everyone to remain steadfast in their faith. In more recent years, its popularity moved beyond the church when it was used in the Civil Rights Movement and other causes, and it has been recorded by a wide variety of singers including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and many more.

This setting has the original purpose in mind, to remind the listeners to remain faithful to God. In this solo/duet setting, it becomes a testimony of the soloists:

I shall not be moved.

Like a tree planted by the water,
