This arrangement is written in march form, featuring the hymn “Salvation, O the Joyful Sound,” written by Isaac Watts, W. Walter Shirley, and William T. Giffe. The hymn was first published in 1707 but has been altered over the years by the addition and omission of various verses and choruses. It has been a popular hymn of The Salvation Army since its formation as The Christian Mission in 1865, with the chorus encapsulating the life of the committed Christian:

So we’ll lift up the banner on high,

The Salvation banner of love;

We’ll fight beneath its colors till we die,

Then go to our home above.
