Program Notes:

The tune “Dix”, written by Conrad Kocher (1786-1872), has a quality of majesty and praise.  This melody is most frequently sung with the words of the hymn “For the beauty of the earth,” by the English poet, Folliott Sandford Pierpoint (1835-1917).  In some congregations, it is also associated with the Advent season (“As with gladness, men of old…”)  Stephen Bulla’s  classical style arrangement creates a pastoral, serene atmosphere of worship.
