Program Notes:

This well-known hymn by Salvation Army founder William Booth has been given a new musical setting by Salvationist songwriter Phil Laeger.  Laeger’s rollicking Celtic flavored melody perfectly captures the spirit of the text’s heartfelt plea for a fresh and powerful filling of the Holy Spirit.  This arrangement maintains the Celtic style while adding fanfare figures and new harmonies to heighten the intensity. 

O, Jesus Christ of burning, cleansing flame,

Your precious blood-bought gift, today we claim.

Look down and see this waiting host,

Send us the promised Holy Ghost,

O how we long to see another Pentecost.
