II Corinthians 5:17 states that “if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Rufus H. McDaniel (1850-1940) wrote the text to this song after the death of his youngest son. It was introduced with a tune by Charles H. Gabriel (1856-1932) during Billy Sunday’s 1915 campaign in Philadelphia.
This setting allows the soloist to give this joyous testimony through song: “What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought, since Jesus came into my heart!”
