In 1870, William Howard Doane wrote the music to Lydia Baxter’s text, “Take the Name of Jesus With You.” Lydia Baxter spent much of her life as an invalid, but she was still able to have an important witness from her home where many meetings were held.
In this arrangement, these encouraging words are set to a lovely, flowing accompaniment. There are two subtle quotes from other songs that reinforce the idea of the importance of the name of Jesus: “Jesus Is the Sweetest Name I know” and “There’s Just Something About That Name.”
