William D. Longstaff wrote “Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord” during the 1880’s after hearing a sermon based on I Peter 1:16, “Be ye holy, for I am holy.” When paired with George C. Stebbins’ music a few years later, this song became an international favorite. This setting for horn solo brings fresh meaning to this challenge for holiness.
