Program Notes:

This arrangement provides a march setting for this tune, usually associated with the Fall harvest season.  The words and melody to this German hymn date back to the 1700’s, when the tune was known by the name “Dresden.”  It refers to our gratitude to God for fruitful seed of the harvest as well as the now of winter.

We plow the fields and scatter the good seed on the land

But it is fed and watered by God’s almighty hand

He sends the snow in winter, the warmth to swell the grain,

The breezes, and the sunshine, and soft, refreshing rain.
