Type: Hymn/Song Arrangement
Composer: Robert Snelson
Program Notes:
The inspiration for Judson W. Van de Venter’s (1855-1939) well-known hymn “I Surrender All” came while reflecting upon the moment he surrendered his life fully to God. He was an art teacher in Pennsylvania when he felt an urge to give up his teaching and become a full-time evangelist. After five years of struggling against this conviction, he finally gave his passion for art over to God and devoted himself to evangelism.
This song echoes the sentiment of the Apostle Paul who proclaimed, “But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ” (Philippians 3:7). This arrangement clearly presents the melody to these powerful words that are still dear to many people today.
