Program Notes:

Hans Leo Hassler wrote this deeply emotional Easter hymn tune approximately 400 years ago.  The Latin hymn associated with this tune was written in the 17th century by Paulus Gerhardt (translated into German from the Latin of Bernard of Clairvaux and later translated into English by James Waddell Alexander (1804-1859).
