Who Is He In Yonder Stall
Grade Level 2
Year: 2024
Composer: Benjamin Russell Hanby, arr. Nick Simmons-Smith
Program Notes:
“Who is He?” is a hymn written in 1866 by Benjamin Hanby that tells the story of Jesus in six short verses. Each verse asks a question “Who is he?” and refers to events in Jesus’ life - in Bethlehem, with Lazarus, at Gethsemane, from the grave. The chorus triumphantly states:
’Tis the Lord, O wondrous story!
‘Tis the Lord, the King of glory!
At His feet we humbly fall,
Crown Him, crown Him, Lord of all.
This is married to the lesser-known Christmas song “There’s a Star in the East” written by Evangeline Booth which includes the chorus:
Oh, come to Jesus bring Him your care
Your sin He'll pardon, your griefs He'll share,
He's so tender, so strong, so true, so kind;
Oh, I love Him by far more than all.
